Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an arcade racing game that reimagines Star Wars podracing as a demanding roguelite experience. According to Xbox Wire, the title transforms the racing franchise into an experience where every mistake carries consequences and players must think strategically about equipment and specialisations.
The game was developed by Fuse Games and draws clear inspiration from Burnout Paradise, the acclaimed arcade racer by Criterion Games. According to Kieran Crimmins, creative director and former Criterion developer, the studio maintains the philosophy of letting players "have a bit of a smash" against opponents, allowing aggressive collisions and contact to be viable racing tactics. The vehicle specialisation system offers, as stated, "combinations in the trillions", enabling deep customisation of speeders.
The roguelite structure forces players to consider every move carefully. Critics who tested the game at pre-release events noted that the mechanic demands deliberate decision-making, punishing mistakes more severely than traditional racers. One critic described a situation where an aggressive side-swipe against another podracer resulted in shared defeat, illustrating how competitive the racing can be.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC.
