Rockstar Games detailed life simulation mechanics in Grand Theft Auto 6 during an interview with British magazine Dazed. According to the publication, food consumption will affect the weight of protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, while exercise will visibly build and tone their muscles.
Other behaviors will also leave visible marks on the characters. Staying awake for extended periods without sleep will impact their appearance, as will "multi-day benders" that leave the protagonists looking exhausted and worn. These visual changes work similarly to systems featured in Red Dead Redemption 2, though GTA has not implemented mechanics this detailed since GTA: San Andreas (2004).
The interview also covered how switching between Jason and Lucia functions. Players can choose to play as a couple or cause chaos independently in Leonida, with the ability to freely alternate between the two characters during the campaign. Rockstar indicated that player choices will affect the couple's relationship with greater depth than the honor systems in previous titles.
GTA 6 launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
