Halo Studios has walked back an initial controversial requirement. According to an official statement on Halo Waypoint, PlayStation 5 players of Halo: Campaign Evolved won't need a PS Plus subscription to play local split-screen co-op offline, only a Microsoft account and Xbox Gamertag.
Confusion arose when early details suggested both players would require PS Plus even for offline play. The studio acknowledged the mistake and updated its guidance. However, the Microsoft account requirement remains across all platforms (PS5, Xbox, and Steam) to enable cross-platform progress.
On Xbox Series X and S, the situation differs slightly: online co-op requires Xbox Game Pass, while offline split-screen only needs two Xbox accounts. The remake, launching in July, marks the franchise's first time coming to PlayStation.
