It's official: Intel has confirmed the development of Z990 and Z970 chipsets for the new LGA 1954 socket, according to Adrenaline. The 900 series brings significant changes in PCIe lane count, DMI Gen5 support, and enhanced overclocking capabilities.
The Z990, aimed at enthusiasts, delivers power consumption of up to 14W under maximum Gen5 interface usage scenarios. Base power for the Z990 chipset sits at 7.9W, while the Z970 starts at 6.4W — both representing increases over previous generations.
The platform is also expected to receive new processors. According to Adrenaline, Intel is reportedly developing Core 200 CPUs with Raptor Lake architecture for the LGA 1700 socket with DDR4 support, with an expected launch in early 2027. This strategy would aim to offer more affordable alternatives in a hardware pricing crisis.
