Final Fantasy XIV on Switch 2 faces loading time bugs

Final Fantasy XIV officially launched on Nintendo Switch 2 this week, marking the MMORPG's first release on a Nintendo console in its nearly 13-year history. However, Square Enix has identified a performance issue in the new version.

According to the company, the game experiences prolonged loading times during transitions in instanced duties (group content), particularly when the screen fades to black between scenes. The developer has confirmed it is testing an update to resolve the issue.

Despite this, community reception has been largely positive. Players praised the port quality upon launch, with many calling the Switch 2 version the best way to play the title on a handheld, even surpassing performance on Steam Deck.

The Switch 2 version takes up 117 GB, making it the largest game released on the console to date. Square Enix offered a one-month free trial after launch while confirming the MMORPG's stability on the platform.
