Techland has announced the cancellation of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast, nearly a year after the game's release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The decision was communicated by the developer in an official statement.
According to Techland, "Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware." The developer explained that the "open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide."
The game was originally promised as part of the Dying Light 2 season pass for PlayStation 4 players. Techland stated it will offer refunds to PS4 version owners, as the title had been available for pre-order on last-generation consoles. The studio said it attempted to develop the legacy versions but concluded that the technical compromises required would be too significant to maintain the intended experience.
This marks another instance of developers stepping back from supporting PS4 and Xbox One as modern games become increasingly demanding. Dying Light: The Beast remains available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
