Rockstar Games and PlayStation have confirmed in the PlayStation Blog that GTA 6 will utilize the PS5's SSD to deliver near-instant load times. The technology will allow players to explore the fictional Miami and the broader Florida region without lengthy interruptions.
The shift marks a significant departure from the series' history. The original GTA 5, released in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, was notorious for its extremely long loading screens at startup, often stretching several minutes. During these waits, the game would display character and environment artwork as teasers, a practice that became iconic for players.
When GTA 5 was re-released in 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, loading times improved substantially. Now, with GTA 6, the experience will be further optimized thanks to the new-generation architecture. Some players, however, have already expressed nostalgia for the loading screen moments that defined earlier gaming generations.
