Blizzard announced it is ending new content development for Stadium, Overwatch's MOBA-inspired mode. According to game director Aaron Keller, the decision stems from engagement numbers: only 3% of daily players queue into Stadium (both ranked and unranked versions), compared to 54% in unranked 5v5 role queue and 34% in ranked 5v5.
Launched roughly a year ago, Stadium transforms the hero shooter into a MOBA-like experience where two teams compete across a series of matches and players are locked into their selected character for each round. Despite the shift away from new content, Blizzard will continue supporting Stadium with seasonal balance updates, rank resets, and rewards.
Overwatch's player base surged in 2026 following a major overhaul of the title, but Stadium failed to maintain momentum with that audience. Keller noted that the mode "has settled into a dedicated, smaller audience," explaining Blizzard's choice to focus development efforts on more popular formats.
