God of War Laufey, the upcoming franchise entry centered on Faye as the protagonist, has been part of Santa Monica Studio's plans since well before its official announcement. According to an interview with Deborah Ann Woll, the actress providing motion capture and voice acting for Faye, creative director Cory Barlog pitched the idea to her back in 2018. "I've known about this for nearly 10 years and haven't been able to talk about it," Woll told CGMagazine.
When Barlog first presented the concept, he already had a clear vision for the project, including the companion character Phranque, a talking cube voiced by Jack Quaid. Woll shared that Faye and Phranque were introduced to her as a poster during the initial pitch meeting.
God of War Laufey received its official announcement during June 2026's State of Play, featuring an extensive gameplay trailer. The revelation that the project has been in development for this long underscores both the scope and priority Santa Monica places on the franchise, betting on an alternate narrative that makes Kratos' wife the center of the story.
