Sandfall wants Clair Obscur on Switch 2, but faces major technical challenge

Sandfall Interactive, the studio behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has confirmed it is interested in adapting the RPG for Nintendo Switch 2, though it cautioned about the technical obstacles involved. In an interview with Automaton, creative director Guillaume Broche stated the studio is "interested in looking for a way to do it, but it's too early for us to announce anything at this point."

The core challenge is technical. Tom Guillermin, CTO and co-founder of Sandfall, explained that "it's a big technical challenge because we tried to do something beautiful with the game, but of course, the Switch 2 is not as powerful as the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X." The title was built on Unreal Engine 5, and many of the engine's features do not work effectively on Nintendo's hybrid console.

The game launched in exclusivity on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2024, with Switch fans requesting a port since the hybrid console was announced. Sandfall made clear that any Switch 2 version remains in the exploratory phase, with no timeline or official confirmation in place.
