Modder creates high-quality third-person camera mod for Baldur's Gate 3

A new mod for Baldur's Gate 3 brings a working over-the-shoulder third-person camera that functions surprisingly well. According to PC Gamer, the mod was created by modder Relysia and uploaded to Nexus Mods last week.

In the demonstration, the player can be seen exploring the Undercity Ruins with the new perspective. While animations show some minor jitteriness, the system works because Baldur's Gate 3's environments were built to be examined closely during dialogue cutscenes, maintaining believable scale throughout.

Previously, it was possible to zoom the camera closer in Baldur's Gate 3, but always at a slight downward angle. This mod offers a true third-person alternative, similar to what players experience in games like Dragon Age. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, the modification brings a more cinematic approach to the original experience.

It remains unclear whether the camera will function equally well across all of the game's environments, but the fact that it works at all represents a solid achievement for modding work.
