Bethesda Game Studios released a detailed plan this week outlining its future, officially confirming remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas alongside Fallout 5 in pre-production. According to IGN, the company stated that both remasters are in active development, though no release dates have been announced yet.
Fallout 5 is described by Polygon as the studio's "long-range destination." As reported by GamesRadar, Bethesda explained that its teams are developing Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform built since Starfield's launch. "Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction. The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today," the company stated.
The announcement also confirms that Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, is returning to the franchise with a new project separate from Fallout 5. According to GamesRadar, Todd Howard, Bethesda's boss, said he could "not be more excited" to work with Obsidian again following the 16-year gap since New Vegas launched.
This communication comes days after Microsoft conducted mass layoffs across Xbox structure, prompting Bethesda to reaffirm its commitment to its core franchises. The company also confirmed that Starfield will continue receiving support despite recent organizational changes.
