Although Cyberpunk 2077 has recovered significantly since its troubled 2020 launch, CD Projekt Red does not consider itself fully redeemed, according to CEO Michał Nowakowski.
Despite post-launch efforts that have improved the game's standing, the Polish developer views complete redemption as an ongoing goal. Nowakowski indicated that the studio hopes The Witcher 4 will help solidify that recovery and rebuild player trust in future projects.
The position reflects the complexity of CD Projekt Red's situation. While Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved lasting cultural relevance and The Witcher 3 maintains absolute prestige (including an announced expansion over a decade after its release), the legacy of the 2020 launch failure still weighs on the studio's assessment of its trajectory.
