The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past was officially unveiled at Gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live, introducing Letten as a new playable region. Letten is the homeland of Dandelion, Geralt's bard companion, and sets the expansion's plot in motion: the bard disappears shortly after Geralt arrives, turning a simple search into a witcher-worthy job.
According to co-developer Fool's Theory, the story for Songs of the Past was conceived "years ago" by Ola Motyka and Philip Weber, writers from the 2015 base game. The pair had to shelve the project initially, but it resurfaced once conditions aligned and the studio expanded. The narrative promises to be entirely original, featuring never-before-seen enemies and a "long-dormant" event waiting to be uncovered.
Confirmed additions include at least one new romance character for Geralt to pursue, expanding options beyond Triss, Yennefer, and other established romance paths. Another highlight: players can finally pet dogs during the expansion, fixing a notable limitation in the original game that only allowed petting horses.
Songs of the Past launches in 2027, marking the third expansion for The Witcher 3 following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, over a decade after the base game's release.
