Microsoft is evaluating strategies to restructure its gaming division. According to reporting by The Information, the company is considering "spinning out or restructuring" the Xbox brand, with options including converting it into a wholly owned subsidiary or forming joint ventures with partners. No decision is imminent, the publication said.
Simultaneously, Redmond plans to accelerate development of its flagship franchises — Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Halo — by concentrating resources on these strategic properties. The move is part of a broader effort to revitalize Xbox, which has faced challenges in recent years, including Game Pass subscriber losses following price increases.
Matt Booty, Xbox's chief content officer, commented in an interview with Variety that not every project can appear at public events, mentioning "other beats coming up in the year." This explains recent absences of announcements for titles like Marvel's Blade and The Elder Scrolls VI from the Xbox Games Showcase.
In related news, Bethesda announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will arrive on Switch 2 in 2026, keeping the franchise across multiple platforms.
