The Elder Scrolls Online has a future. Despite ZeniMax Online Studios losing more than 200 developers in the recent Xbox layoffs, the studio has reaffirmed that its flagship MMORPG will continue receiving new content in the years ahead.
Nick Giacomini, the studio's new game director, published a roadmap on July 30 confirming that previously announced updates, including a combat and class refresh plus Update 52, have been moved to 2027. "Instead of rushing to hit a previously announced deadline, we are giving our teams the runway they need to do things right," Giacomini stated in an official post.
While some content is delayed, ZeniMax assured players that new updates will still arrive in 2026, with Update 51 launching on September 28. According to GamesRadar, Bethesda is also stepping up direct support for the studio, with plans for "all-new experiences in Skyrim" on the horizon.
The announcement comes to reassure the community following concerns about the game's future during the layoff wave. Now in its 12th year of operation, ESO remains one of the most-played MMORPGs on the market.
