GTA 6 confirmed with no microtransactions, no AI, and a map twice the size of GTA 5

Rockstar Games confirmed in interviews that GTA 6 will launch without microtransactions and without using generative AI during development. According to Kinda Funny Games, Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, directly answered "no" when asked about both points.

The game's map is double the size of GTA 5, Rockstar confirmed. The main campaign, including optional objectives with narrative ramifications, takes approximately 80 hours of gameplay, this information came from Rob Nelson's playthrough in February 2026, as reported by The New York Times.

Rockstar also detailed important gameplay changes. Car-theft and driving systems will be "more challenging" than in previous titles, aiming for greater realism. NPCs will now notice if the player is carrying weapons in public and call police, unlike past games where it was possible to walk around armed without drawing attention.

The studio created a dedicated office in Los Angeles solely to work on NPC animations. GTA 6 will feature over 600,000 non-player character animations, compared to 55,000 in GTA 5 and 300,000 in Red Dead Redemption 2. The goal is to make each character in the world move and react uniquely.

Rockstar was also careful about what to satirize. According to Rob Nelson, the team avoided references to recent events like the Covid pandemic and Donald Trump's presidency, as these things "date fast" and the game has been in development since 2015.
