Gears of War: E-Day is set to deliver significantly longer gameplay than previous entries in the franchise. Creative director Matt Searcy told IGN that the prequel will feature a campaign exceeding 14 hours — making it the longest campaign The Coalition has ever developed.
Beyond its length, the game packs more collectibles than any predecessor, rewarding thorough exploration. This approach represents a shift for a series traditionally known for tighter, more compact campaigns.
The title also implements substantial changes to movement mechanics, modernizing the experience without fully embracing parkour-style traversal. The Coalition started development from scratch, aiming to create an experience welcoming to both Gears veterans and newcomers.
Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with console exclusivity on the Microsoft platform.
