It's official: Star Wars Zero Company launched today on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The turn-based tactics title developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games arrives to widespread critical praise.
According to IGN, the game is "a great-looking, clever tactics game that also tells one of the better Star Wars stories we've seen since Rogue One." The review highlights excellent characters, writing, music, and cinematic flair that give context and weight to a campaign centered around a diverse group of mercenaries. Polygon notes that Zero Company "convincingly places us in the late Republic era, where a band of mercenaries ends up way in over their heads as the world crumbles around them."
Destructoid describes it as "a single-player turn-based tactics title set in the twilight of the Clone Wars," while VGC praises the "deeply strategic space opera with a surprisingly big heart." The game retails for $50 (£40) at standard price and is available on Steam.
The game differentiates itself from XCOM through a more aggressive playstyle and flexible character mechanics, according to IGN. The presence of Jedi and lightsabers notably takes a back seat to blasters and thermal detonators, solidifying the focus on mercenaries across the galaxy during the Clone Wars era.
