Rockstar prioritizes console at GTA 6 launch; PC release to follow

Set to launch on November 19, Grand Theft Auto 6 will not arrive on PC at release. According to John Ricchio, a former producer who worked on GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3, the decision follows a deliberate development strategy: starting with the constraints of console hardware and later expanding to more powerful platforms proves more efficient than the inverse path.

Ricchio explained in an interview with YouTube channel Kiwi Talkz that Rockstar historically used PC as a starting point, developing with the best available hardware and then optimizing for limited platforms. This approach resulted in problematic ports of GTA and other projects.

By reversing course and beginning with console constraints, Rockstar builds a solid foundation that scales better to PC afterward. Though Rockstar holds a marketing agreement with Sony, the staggered platform release strategy aligns with the company's established practice for new titles.
