A new story trailer for Marvel's Wolverine premiered during Insomniac Games' San Diego Comic-Con panel. According to the PlayStation Blog, the studio brought together creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, narrative director Walt Williams, and actors Liam McIntyre (Logan/Wolverine) and Krizia Bajos (Jean Grey) to present fresh story details.
The footage reveals Jean Grey will play a central role in the narrative, as reported by multiple outlets. The story follows Logan's attempt to rescue mutants under persecution while facing cybernetic Sentinels and former acquaintances. Among confirmed villains are Lady Deathstrike, who commands a ninja army, and Omega Red, both shown in the trailer.
According to Destructoid, the game functions as an X-Men origin story, set in a universe where the team does not yet exist. Logan must contend with Sabertooth, who can serve as either enemy or ally, as revealed in earlier announcements.
Beyond the trailer, Marvel and Insomniac announced a prequel comic that establishes events occurring before the game's campaign begins. Marvel's Wolverine launches September 15, 2026 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The panel also confirmed a free crossover collaboration between Wolverine and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, bringing special costumes to both games.
