David Gaider announces heist RPG in development at Summerfall Studios

David Gaider, legendary writer known for his work on Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, and the Dragon Age series, is developing a new heist-focused RPG. According to PC Gamer, the game casts players as the captain of a crew of rogues aboard an airship that performs heists, which eventually escalates into a more traditional RPG plot.

The project is being developed at Summerfall Studios, founded by Gaider in 2017. Summerfall released Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical (2023) and Malys (2024), neither of which achieved strong commercial performance. Gaider described this new game as a "make or break" project for the studio.

Unlike his previous work in dark fantasy, Gaider told PC Gamer he wanted to create something "not full-on comedy, but something that could make me smile". According to him, "at this point in the world, we could use something like that." The project has already received "great reception," the writer stated.

Currently, the game is in search of funding. The games industry faces economic contraction that has lasted nearly three years, making resource acquisition a significant challenge for independent studios.
