It's official: Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be the conclusion to the remake trilogy. According to director Naoki Hamaguchi in an interview with Automaton, the third and final game will tie up all story threads by the end credits.
Hamaguchi also clarified that potential DLCs after launch will not continue the main narrative. Instead, any future expansion will center on "untold stories" of specific characters, potentially including spin-off content inspired by franchise titles like Dirge of Cerberus or Advent Children.
The director also revealed that the team is listening to feedback from Rebirth. According to Hamaguchi, many players experienced fatigue from the massive amount of side-quests on the previous open-world map. For Revelation, the goal is to provide better guidance and avoid making players feel obligated to complete all secondary activities to obtain essential rewards.
Hamaguchi expressed gratitude for the intense debates among fans about the remake's changes, viewing this as a sign that people care about the material. "When people get heated, it means they see value in those elements," he stated in another Automaton interview. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for 2025.
