Epic Games Store Gets Ground-Up Rebuild With 5x Faster Launch Times

Epic Games announced during Unreal Fest in Chicago its roadmap for the Epic Games Store over the next 12 months, detailing a ground-up rebuild of the launcher. According to PC Gamer and IGN, the announcement was made through slides that circulated on social media during the event.

The main focus is performance gains. Epic claims the rebuild will deliver average cold boot startup 5 times faster and systray restore to library 6.5 times faster on average. Epic Games Store GM Steve Allison had previously described the technical improvement as "pretty profound" when initial plans were first reported in February.

Beyond performance, the roadmap includes a complete storefront redesign, user reviews and ratings, player profiles with avatars, universal controller support, and new patch notes sections. According to IGN, Epic is aiming to redesign the store for both players and developers alike.

These changes come as the Epic Games Store has faced ongoing criticism regarding user experience compared to competitors like Steam. The improvements represent Epic's effort to make its platform more competitive and user-friendly.
