Minecraft is officially coming to Switch 2 on October 27, according to Mojang. The version for Nintendo's hybrid console will include what the developer calls "Vibrant Visuals," a graphics enhancement featuring improved lighting, shadows, and more, taking advantage of Switch 2's more powerful hardware.
Owners of the original Switch version will be able to digitally upgrade to the Switch 2 version, though not all features support the enhanced visuals. Split-screen gameplay and certain marketplace worlds or content will not receive the graphical improvements. The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, exclusive to Nintendo versions of Minecraft, has been updated to support the new visual capabilities.
While Minecraft is already playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility, this optimized version marks the first dedicated launch for the new platform.
