Don't Nod, the French developer behind the Life is Strange franchise, is facing a severe financial crisis. A financial report disclosed by the company revealed that its cash reserves may be depleted by November unless it finds a new source of funding in the coming months.
The developer, headquartered in Paris with a satellite studio in Montreal, has accumulated a string of recent releases that failed to achieve expected commercial success. Recent titles include Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, Jusant, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and Aphelion (released in 2025). Additionally, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, a spiritual successor to Life is Strange launched in February 2025, also underperformed commercially.
According to industry reports, Tencent, which had previously invested in Don't Nod, has already stated it will not make new investments or finance future projects from the studio. This scenario further aggravates the developer's financial situation, leaving them with approximately five months to find alternative funding sources before capital runs out entirely.
