Wreckreation 2 announced by former Burnout creators' new studio

It's official: Wreckreation 2 is in development. The announcement comes from Fiona Sperry, former Criterion Games studio head, who has reformed her team under the studio name When Tides Turn following the closure of Three Fields Entertainment.

The original Wreckreation launched in 2025 as a spiritual successor to Burnout Paradise, the classic Burnout series entry Sperry helped create at Criterion. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Sperry explained that the original game explored "freedom and creativity in racing games," continuing "unfinished work" from the end of Burnout Paradise and a previous project the team was developing before leaving EA.

Despite the first game receiving mixed reviews, the sequel promises significant refinements. Per Pure Xbox, Wreckreation 2 maintains the open-world approach inspired by Burnout Paradise but shifts focus more toward racing and away from the creation aspects of the original title. The game is targeted at Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The announcement marks Sperry's return to arcade racer development following the cancellation of the first Wreckreation by publisher THQ Nordic, as Polygon reports. The sequel represents a second attempt by the veteran to revive the style of gameplay that has largely disappeared from the market as the original Burnout series declined into dormancy.
