Castlevania: Belmont's Curse gets positive reviews ahead of launch

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse arrives on consoles and PC this Thursday (October 15) to largely positive reviews. According to coverage from specialist outlets, the game marks the series' return with new original content after more than a decade away.

Developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin (the studios behind Dead Cells), the title is a 2D Metroidvania adventure putting players in control of Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont. Set 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, the narrative fits within both the original series canon and the Netflix show's continuity, even featuring voice actors from the television adaptation reprising their roles.

On Metacritic, the game debuted with solid scores: 85 points for PC and PS5, and 88 for Xbox. The Switch version showed slightly lower performance. Reviews highlight competent action gameplay, though exploration and Metroidvania aspects are less polished, but the overall consensus points to a welcome return for the franchise.

The launch also coincides with the 40th anniversary of Castlevania, which began in 1986.
