Rockstar's next game won't take another 8 years to develop, studio promises

According to an interview with Bloomberg, Rockstar development heads Phil Hooker and Aaron Garburt have vowed that the studio's next game will not take another eight years to make, unlike the gap between Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) and GTA 6 (2026).

Hooker explained that the foundation created during GTA 6's development will enable faster production on future titles. "The engine, the tools and the team we've built during this project will allow us to do things more quickly," the technology director said. Garburt added: "I feel confident that we can build on top of this and go more sideways than upwards to build more compelling content."

GTA 6 development began around 2015 and lasted approximately 11 years in total. As a result, the gap between GTA 5 (2013) and GTA 6 exceeds 13 years, one of the longest intervals in Rockstar's history for a major franchise entry.
