Arc Raiders' 2.0 update, called Frozen Trail, has pushed Embark Studios' extraction shooter to its highest concurrent player count in seven months on Steam. According to IGN, the spike coincided with a new snow-covered map launch, introduction of a grappling hook inspired by Spider-Man, and a free weekend promotion.
The update delivered multiple quality-of-life improvements. The new Weapon Amplification system functions as a fifth upgrade tier for most available weapons, adding strategic depth to endgame progression. A toggle to disable backpack luminescence was another practical addition for stealth-focused play.
The renewed interest arrives after months of player frustration. Arc Raiders faced backlash when Embark announced reduced update frequency, pledging only two major updates per year, and delayed the Expedition system originally slated for late 2024 until early 2027. The community expressed skepticism about those plans at the time.
The extraction title, which previously reached 16 million sales, is now testing a dedicated PvE mode as a permanent offering, providing an alternative to player-versus-player confrontation. The community response to Frozen Trail indicates rekindled engagement with the experience.
