A multiplayer PvP mod for The Last of Us Part 2 on PC will not be released after Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the creator halt the project. Modder Speclizer, who developed the modification, confirmed on social media that he received an official letter from the company asking him not to release the mod publicly.
The project had been in development since January and was scheduled to launch this month. In June, Speclizer shared 25 minutes of gameplay showcasing the mod in action, generating community interest. According to IGN, Speclizer stated he was "extremely sad that this never got to see the light of day" but indicated he plans to work on future projects of his own.
The mod emerged as a response to the absence of multiplayer functionality in The Last of Us Part 2. Naughty Dog canceled the development of The Last of Us Online, a dedicated multiplayer game, in 2023 after four years of work. The fan community sought to fill that gap through modifications for the PC version of the game.
