It's official. Kingdom Hearts 4 arrives in late 2027 for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to an announcement at Disney's D23. The news came with a new trailer during the Disney Entertainment Showcase.
The standout of the fresh footage is a world inspired by Coco, the Pixar film. In the trailer, Sora appears in the Land of the Dead sporting calavera-inspired makeup and a thematically-matched Keyblade. The sequence shows battles against Heartless alongside Miguel and other Coco characters, plus scenes of King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy searching for a way to locate and rescue Sora.
The trailer also marks the return of familiar allies, complete with group combat sequences and visuals that uphold Kingdom Hearts' signature style. Square Enix and Disney are developing the title in partnership with Tetsuya Nomura, the franchise's creator.
Beyond the game, Disney announced Kingdom Hearts The Series, an original anime coming to Disney+ and Disney Channel. Per IGN, the production will be developed in collaboration with Nomura and Square Enix, telling an original story that expands the Kingdom Hearts universe without adapting the games. No launch window has been confirmed beyond "coming soon".
