Civilization VII gets free Atomic Age update in 2027

Civilization VII will receive a major free update in 2027 called Arc of Tomorrow. According to Firaxis, the update will introduce the Atomic Age to the game and extend its historical span to 2050, moving past the current 1950 limit.

The update will be "even bigger in scope" than Test of Time, a massive overhaul released in May 2026 that brought mechanical reworks and a spike in Steam players. The Atomic Age will add currently missing technologies such as nuclear submarines and ICBMs.

Alongside the free update, Firaxis also announced a space race DLC for the game, bringing more post-launch content as the developer continues efforts to revitalize Civilization VII. The game remains divisive among series fans, with Steam reviews still marked as "Mixed" at 51% positive.
