Rockstar reveals GTA 6 field research and side activities

Rockstar Games lifted the curtain on GTA 6 production, showcasing the scope of research conducted to recreate Florida authentically. According to IGN, senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries told Game Informer that the team visited strip clubs and rode around at night with ex-cops across Miami and South Florida to gain first-hand experience of the region.

In tandem, Rockstar officially revealed secondary activities found throughout Leonida, the game's map. As covered by IGN Brasil, these include minigolf, skydiving, diving, and extreme sports. Most had been glimpsed in the extended gameplay footage shown in August, but now received formal confirmation from the studio.

Head of development and co-studio head Aaron Garbut told Game Informer how the team tackled production at an unprecedented scale. "As the pressure for us on this project is huge, we dealt with that by doing our best to overdeliver," Garbut said. "Normally you compromise scale for detail or detail for interaction, but with this project we went the other way: everything is dialed up; detail, scope, breadth, scale, interaction and density."

Rockstar reinforced that GTA 6 ranks among the most meticulously crafted video games ever made, a reflection of the record budget poured in by Take-Two Interactive and the studio's refusal to sacrifice visual fidelity, open-world scope, or lifelike physics.
