Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Veronica, the remake of the 2000 original, will be a fully third-person experience. The announcement came during Summer Game Fest 2026, where the title received its official reveal.
The reveal raised eyebrows because the announcement trailer was shot in first-person — a deliberate misdirect, according to producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. Unlike Resident Evil Requiem, which allows players to switch between perspectives, Veronica will lock players into a fixed over-the-shoulder view throughout the campaign.
The design choice honors the spirit of the 2000 original while employing modern controls and camera refinements that Capcom perfected in the RE2 and RE4 remakes. According to reports, it's the same team behind those two titles steering the camera work here.
The remake is scheduled for 2027 and will bring Claire Redfield back to Rockfort Island with the gameplay that defined the series before its shift to first-person perspectives.
