God of War Laufey launches February 2027; next Kratos-led God of War game already in development

It's official: God of War Laufey, the new entry in the series centered on Laufey (Kratos' deceased wife), will release on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The announcement came during the franchise panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog confirmed the game will ship on physical disc.

The title marks the return of the series as a PS5 exclusive and arrives as one of Sony's flagship releases for early 2027. According to Barlog, "everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next."

At the same panel, Barlog announced that a new God of War game starring Kratos is already in development at Santa Monica Studio. The next title will connect directly to the events of Laufey, expanding the franchise's narrative. However, no additional details regarding title, platform, or release window were revealed during the presentation.

The confirmation of God of War Laufey on physical media comes weeks after Sony announced it would halt PlayStation disc production starting in 2028, marking a final window for physical releases on the platform.
