Blizzard revealed Overwatch's newest hero during BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony: Doctrine, a vampire-inspired support character with a cyborg arm and mechanical bats. According to IGN, the hero features a high mechanical skill floor and introduces a new "Infuse" mechanic that lets players strategically deploy power boosts during critical moments. Doctrine heals and deals damage with a scepter, can move across maps shrouded in darkness, and deploys drones to buff teammates.
The character carries a storyline connection to Doomfist, revealed through an animated trailer. A hero trial made Doctrine playable during BlizzCon and for players at home through September 14, ahead of his official release in Season 5.
Season 5 brings substantial changes to two oft-tweaked heroes. According to Destructoid, Sombra transitions from the Damage class to Support, marking a significant role shift. Roadhog, the bulky tank, gets reworked to become less frustrating to play against and to better support his team, per Blizzard franchise leadership.
Season 5 launches October 6. Doctrine releases officially alongside it, and Overwatch remains free-to-play across PC, console, and Nintendo Switch 2.
