Director Peter Berg revealed during Fanatics Fest over the weekend that the Call of Duty movie in development at Paramount will take place in the Modern Warfare universe, according to Eurogamer.
The choice of setting had remained undecided until now. Call of Duty spans multiple distinct narrative universes, including Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and others, each with its own tone, locations, and characters. Modern Warfare (or Call of Duty 4), released in 2007, marked the franchise's shift from World War 2 settings to contemporary conflicts, focusing on tensions in Russia and the Middle East.
The film is being developed with Peter Berg directing and Taylor Sheridan (creator of Yellowstone) as writer and producer. Per Variety, Paramount and Activision have stated the project aims to "thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding" it. The film is scheduled for theaters on June 30, 2028. Cast and plot details remain under wraps.
