No Man's Sky's Cosmos update is live today, marking ten years since the game's release. According to the PlayStation Blog, the update brings a massive overhaul of space itself and is available for free to PlayStation 5 players and on other platforms.
Sean Murray, head of Hello Games, called Cosmos one of the game's "biggest and craziest" updates ever. "No Man's Sky is often referred to as 'a Space Game', it's a huge part of our game, but we've never really updated space since release," Murray said, per IGN. "With Cosmos we wondered: can we make space feel truly alive? And could we make space feel more like home?"
Key additions include the ability to purchase and customize your own space station, a feature GamesRadar identifies as "our most requested feature since launch." The update also introduces orbital bases, player alliances capable of spanning tens of thousands of players, giant resource-filled "space hulks," and a gravity gun for harvesting materials. Players can now reach the sun.
Hello Games continues its relentless pace of updates for the game. According to GamesRadar, the technology built for Cosmos will be tested and refined for Light No Fire, the studio's next major survival game.
