Nintendo announced Metroid Ravenous during its Nintendo Direct in September 2026. The game marks the return of the series to its classic 2D perspective, five years after Metroid Dread launched on the original Switch.
According to the announcement, Metroid Ravenous places Samus Aran on a planet where she is hunted by a mysterious group. The trailer revealed during the event hints at an energy absorption mechanic targeting enemies, similar to Metroids themselves, which may connect to the game's "Ravenous" title.
Metroid Ravenous launches exclusively on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Nintendo also confirmed the production of Amiibo figures and a special edition of the game, though additional details have not yet been disclosed.
