Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, told Radio Times that he made efforts to secure a disc release for the third game in the Remake trilogy. According to the director, his personal appreciation for physical media, rooted in childhood game collecting, motivated him to push Square Enix for this option.
The disc version of Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch alongside the game on April 8, though with a significant caveat: unlike Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which shipped on two discs with the full game, Revelation will come on a single disc containing only the game's opening sections. Players will need to download and install the rest of the content via internet, requiring an active connection to play further.
Hamaguchi explained that the industry is heading toward "a future where physical media is essentially disc-less," which is why his effort to bring any physical version to market represents swimming against the industry tide. He emphasized that as a consumer, he still purchases disc editions when particularly attached to a title, a principle he attempted to apply to Revelation's release.
