Castlevania celebrates 40 years with free game and possible 3D collection

Castlevania reaches its 40th anniversary in 2025, and Konami is celebrating the milestone through multiple initiatives. The original NES game is now available for free on the App Store and Google Play through October 24, 2026. According to Siliconera, the mobile version is described as a "direct port" of the classic title, featuring virtual controls resembling a GBA Micro layout and requiring no always-online connection.

Beyond the free game, Konami launched a dedicated anniversary website confirming music from the series will stream across platforms and an anniversary concert will take place in select cities worldwide.

The anniversary promotional video has sparked fan speculation. Per GameSpot and GamesRadar, eagle-eyed viewers spotted a scene showing Simon Belmont walking through Dracula's castle past portraits of 3D-era games: Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness, and Lords of Shadow. This has led fans to theorize about a possible collection that could bring these 3D titles to modern platforms, as they have remained exclusive to their original hardware until now.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is scheduled to launch in October 2026, marking the series' first new mainline entry in 12 years.
