The Blood of Dawnwalker's time mechanic was rebalanced before launch over developer concerns

Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who worked on The Witcher 3 at CD Projekt Red, revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker originally featured a far stricter time mechanic during development. The team received negative feedback from the community following the game's reveal, with concerns that the time system would be overly challenging.

"We had at first a more restricted time where it was harder to beat the game," Tomaszkiewicz recalled when discussing the change. "But, after all of those voices, before release even, we knew that it can be a problem and we rebalanced it this way to give the buffer for the people to not fear this."

The time mechanic in The Blood of Dawnwalker adds stress to every decision and quest in the RPG, forcing players to make choices under pressure. The pre-launch rebalancing aimed to make the experience less oppressive while maintaining the system's core design.

The game launched in 2026 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
