Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom's latest action game set in a reimagined Edo-period Kyoto, has surged up the Steam charts following its launch. According to Polygon, the game debuted at number 6 on the platform on Friday, but climbed to the number one position over the weekend.
On its first day, the game recorded 40,000 concurrent active players, as tracked by SteamDB. The performance is impressive considering competition from other recent releases like The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The title had already generated buzz in the community ahead of launch, with critics praising its parry-based combat system. According to PC Gamer, Onimusha: Way of the Sword delivers "some of the best action combat of the decade," despite its difficulty curve and cautious introduction to defensive mechanics.
The game continues to hold strong among Steam users, solidifying the franchise's return as a commercial success on the platform.
