Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 sold more than 11 million combined copies on PlayStation 4 and 5, according to estimates from analyst Rhys Elliott at Alinea Analytics. The ports, launched on July 9, generated approximately 500 million dollars in revenue.
The two games were developed by Iron Galaxy and released as 1080p ports without remasters or new features. According to GameSpot, technical experts found the ports feature barely any noticeable improvements, exactly what fans wanted: the original experience on modern consoles.
By contrast, Halo: Campaign Evolved sold around 351,000 copies on PS5 during July, per the same analysis. Elliott noted that Black Ops "got it" where Halo didn't, pointing out that charging $60 for a "graphical touch-up" is a harder sell than offering the classic game largely unchanged.
The Black Ops ports dominated PS5 digital sales in July, selling more copies combined than every other title that month combined, according to Alinea estimates.
