Capcom announced new details for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a major expansion set for release in 2027. At Tokyo Game Show 2026, according to the PlayStation Blog, the studio offered its first hands-on demo of the expansion, featuring three quest types with Chatacabra (a boss variant of the new monster Araketa) and Elder Dragon Teostra in the new Skybound Eyrie area.
Teostra marks a return to the series, Eurogamer reported. The flame-wielding Elder Dragon has appeared in Monster Hunter since Monster Hunter 2 (2006 on PS2) and featured in expansions for both Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. Araketa is a new wyvern monster inhabiting Skybound Eyrie. The expansion also brings Gundoraja, another Elder Dragon, and confirms that Lao-Shan Lung will assault the Eastlands.
The demo showcased Boost Action, a new mechanic that unlocks weapon-specific attacks and empowers certain actions for limited duration by activating the Boost Bracer, according to the official source. The expansion demo will also be playable at Paris Games Week (October 22-25, 2026) and Twitch Con 2026 in San Diego (November 13-15, 2026).
Ascendance introduces Master Rank, new story content, and additional areas. Separately, Capcom confirmed it will remove Character Edit Vouchers, the microtransaction previously charged for editing hunter and Palico appearance, making customization free and unlimited starting with the expansion's launch.
