Nintendo launches promotion with up to 30% discount, funded by tariff refunds

Nintendo of America announced a "Customer Appreciation Sale" offering up to 30% off Nintendo Switch games and accessories. According to Nintendo, the promotion is "made possible in part by tariff-related refunds".

The company absorbed most tariff-related costs imposed by the US government but states that refunds helped enable promotions like this one. The sale runs from September 13 to 26 on the eShop, the Nintendo Store online, and through participating retailers, with Nintendo describing it as "one of our largest promotions ever".

The move comes amid a class action lawsuit against Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, which all received government refunds tied to tariffs implemented under the current US administration and later deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. All three companies argued in court that they could retain the funds rather than pass them to consumers who faced price increases in 2024 and 2025.
