Embark Studios has announced a limited test of a PvE mode for Arc Raiders running from October 13 to 20. During the test period, players will be able to toggle between the standard PvPvE experience and a fully cooperative mode with zero player-to-player damage.
In PvE mode, solos, duos, and trios share the same matchmaking pool, focusing solely on fighting ARC threats and cooperative gameplay. Loot rewards will be lower than in PvPvE to reflect the reduced stakes. Certain map conditions, including Night Raids, Hidden Bunker, Locked Gate, and Frigate, will remain exclusive to standard matchmaking.
According to data shared by Embark, 51% of surveyed players expressed interest in a dedicated PvE option. Over 70% of friendly-focused players and even 40% of pure PvP players indicated a desire for fewer hostile encounters. The friendly co-op player group has grown consistently since launch and now represents 37% of the population, while pure PvP players account for 34%.
Embark made clear this is a limited initial test with an end date. Once the test concludes, the toggle will be removed and matchmaking will return to normal. Player feedback and collected data will shape future decisions about permanent implementation. The studio acknowledged that "it's possible that this will not work," indicating uncertainty about the mode's long-term viability.
