Final Fantasy VII Revelation keeps Cloud as main character, but expands focus on other party members

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will keep Cloud Strife as the central protagonist, but with an approach that gives more space to the other characters in the franchise. The confirmation came from Naoki Hamaguchi, series director and project lead, in a conversation with GamesRadar+.

Hamaguchi explained that Revelation's marketing strategy, which has shown little of Cloud in trailers so far, reflects a deliberate choice. According to the director, "Cloud is still the main character," but his absence in the public campaign allows fans to "see more of the other characters too."

To meet that demand, Revelation will allow players to freely switch between party members during gameplay. Hamaguchi stressed that the studio "very much wanted to have content that goes into each of those characters," ensuring that the full cast has relevance in the game's narrative and mechanics.

The approach contrasts with the series' traditional emphasis on Cloud, expanding the depth of supporting characters. Revelation is scheduled for April 8, 2027 on PS5, Xbox, and PC.
