Bungie confirms Destiny's future, pledges to restore vaulted content

It's official: Destiny is not dead. Bungie released a statement today with an accompanying video confirming that the franchise remains "foundational to our future" and that the studio will reinvest in the series following months of uncertainty.

In the statement posted on Bungie's website, new studio leadership (Poria Torkan, studio head, and Josh Deane, head of product) acknowledged that the studio lost player trust. According to IGN, Bungie admitted it "lost sight" of what players loved about its games in recent years, the result of broken promises and decisions that failed to align vision with reality.

The first step is restoring Destiny 2 content that was removed (vaulted) over the years. Bungie called this archive "what's rightfully yours." Per GameRadar, this includes campaigns, raids, and entire destinations that were deleted for opaque technical reasons, some of which was paid content.

Beyond that, Bungie promises to work on "new stories and games" in the franchise, though no timeline or platforms have been specified yet. The announcement comes four months after "Moment of Triumph," a final update that supposedly ended Destiny 2. The studio also reaffirmed its commitment to Marathon, its extraction shooter that launched in March, which Bungie admitted "did not reach as many players as we had hoped." The developer plans to expand the game into a "deeper survival experience" with a full-time PvE mode and potential new PvP game types.
